RWYM

CALENDAR

THESE ARE PROVISIONAL DATES FOR 2024, TBC JANUARY 2024. MORE DATES MAY BE ADDED
2024, like 2023 will be a break with tradition! In fact, we are in the process of making some new traditions!

We no longer have school horses at Overdale, since my colleague Karin Major, who was running the riding school there, has moved to her own place in Wales. Her RWYM family offer hearty congratulations, and wish her well! What used to be another stables infront of mine became a building site in Autumn 2023. It was not exactly peaceful! In Autumn of 2024, the work is all but complete.

I am holding a smaller number of 3 day courses at several venues around the country, primarily for riders on their own horses only, however there may be some school horses available. Do contact the organisers about this. Courses are limited to 12 participants, each receiving a 1 hour shared (between 2) lesson each day with Mary Wanless (and possibly a supervised assistant), and a dismounted workshop for the group. The chance to watch other lessons is also hugely helpful, enabling you to link the words that are said with the look of the rider and horse, and to compare those with your own ‘feelages’.

The cost of the entire course will vary slightly according to venue. Some have a covered arena, whilst others are in outdoor arenas. All have stabling on site, and most have lorry hookups. Of course you are welcome to trailor in each day. Some venues have accomodation on site, and there are always local Air BnBs etc. If you know of a good potential venue, get in touch with the RWYM office.

Deposits are paid in advance to the local course organiser, and are non-refundable unless a replacement is found for you. Preference will be given to RWYM coaches and coaches in training, and established RWYM pupils. Of those new to the RWYM approach, preference will be given to more experienced riders. But do apply, whoever you are!

There will be the option of an extra shared or private lesson on the afternoon of arrival, which in each case is a Friday. All courses finally finish late afternoon the following Monday, but it is possible to have an early lesson time and to leave earlier if you need to.

Some courses will also have the option of individual sessions in some type of bodywork, which will be fitted in around the lessons. The local organiser will have details.

****PLEASE NOTE, REGARDING TEACHER TRAINING: The Orientation Day is a requirement for first-time participants, who must have attended a 3 day ridden course in the same year. The Basic TT course follows on from either the Orientation Day above, or from previous Basic Teacher Training courses

**** Participants on advanced TT must be accredited coaches, or people who are also attending the Basic course, and have special permission from MW. If you are not yet accredited it may be possible to do the basic + advanced courses in your first or any year, especially if travelling from abroad. In 2024, I hope to be able to create a package of a ridden course followed by the TT courses which will make it easier for people to attend from abroad.

COSTS 2024

The deposit for each course is £350.00. Local organisers have information about who and how to pay.

The coaching fee for extra lessons (eg on the day of arrival) is £70 for a shared lesson, and £85 for a private lesson. These will be paid to Mary Wanless. There may also be an arena fee, payable to the organiser..When a large number of people request an extra lesson on the day of arrival, most or all of those lessons with be shared between two. Please ask if you specifically want a private lesson, but realise that we might not able to accommodate you.
